Michael Francis "Mikey" Knecht, an accomplished chef and life-long resident of La Plata, MD, died unexpectedly on June 3, 2015 at the age of 42. Michael was born in Washington, DC on May 1, 1973. He was a precocious little guy and a natural comedian – always keeping his family in stitches.

Michael is survived by his parents, Michael and Christine Knecht; his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Mandy Knecht; his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Kenny Myers; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Shaun Harker; and his nephews, Trenton, Griffin, Ian, and Garrett.

He had an early love and respect for all genres of music which followed him through his lifetime. While living in Baltimore, he co-founded the Game Two record label which worked with local, national, and international acts. He also co-edited their magazine Slow Ride. Better known as "Colonel Mike," he mentored and inspired many musicians. While working with Game Two, he decided to try his hand in the restaurant world at the Inn at Montross in Montross, VA and found his calling. He spent many years honing his craft at Casey Jones in La Plata and was most recently the Chef de Cuisine at Blue Dog Saloon in Port Tobacco. He was creative, innovative, and passionate in the kitchen – always pushing himself and his team to a higher level.

Mike was a good man and a great friend. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. "There is no end to grief…there is no end to love." We will walk together again, my brother.

Friends will be received on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 4-6PM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will be private.
