Elaine C. Johnson, 74, of Leonardtown, Maryland, died October 7, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown. She was born June 20, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to the late William R. 'Rhodie' Cryer and Marie C. Schulze Cryer.

She graduated from the School of the Nativity Grade School in 1946, the Academy of the Holy Cross High School in 1950, and earned her A.A. from Immaculata College of Washington in 1952. She also attended Catholic University.

She pursued a lifelong interest in art, and taught art for several years at Father Andrew White Grade School in Leonardtown. Her other passion was traveling, and she went on several great adventures early in life, including her fondest trip driving around the U.S. with her friends in 1954. She began it in early June at 21, and 6 weeks and some 20 states later, including passing through Mexico and British Columbia, she returned home in mid-July at 22.

She worked several jobs as a secretary, first in Washington, then at Patuxent River after marrying and moving to St. Mary's County, before retiring to be a full-time mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Edwin P. Johnson, III and his wife, Susan Michaud Johnson, of Morganza, MD; her daughter, Janice A. Johnson, of Leonardtown; her son, Glenn W. Johnson, of Lorton, VA; her granddaughter, Sara L. Johnson, of Morganza; and many very dear friends.

The family received friends and said prayers on Tuesday, October 10th, at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered today, Wednesday, October 11th, at St. Aloysius Church in Leonardtown, at 10:00 A.M, with Father John T. Dakes officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown. Pallbearers will be Darwin Engle, Duane Engle, Geoffrey Engle, James Howard, David Woodburn, and John Woodburn.
