![]() Posey, Bernice T., age 71, of Fort Washington, Maryland.
Bernice Theresa Posey was born August 20, 1943 in Marbury, Maryland to the late Helen "Nellie" Brown and Eugene Montgomery. Bernice was the second oldest of five children. Bernice was educated in the public schools system of Charles County. She was a fun-loving person who made several friendships that remained throughout her life. At an early age, Bernice joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was active in many ministries over the years including, The United Voices of Pleasant Grove, The Missionary Society, The Flower Club, The Deaconess Board, and The Pastor's Aid Club. She was married to the late Carl W. Thompson and to this union, three children were born, Barry and David Thompson and Thomasina "Tina" Brisbon. After nine years as a widow, Bernice married Gordon Posey on August 17, 1974. She and Gordon were inseparable. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage raising the children, traveling, attending church services, and community activities. Bernice was a devoted wife and mother. Her happiest times were those spent at family functions with her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and other family members. These activities were always highlighted with great food especially Bernice's potato salad. Bernice enjoyed shopping, working in her yard, eating crabs, "play dates" with her grandson, Ashten and having her nails manicured by her granddaughter, Anaya. One of her most attractive characteristics was her selflessness. She had a great concern for other people and little or no concern for herself. This was evident in the way that she encouraged college students with her hand written letters; remembered the sick with get well cards and acknowledged birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or any special occasion with a card or note. On April 11, 2015, Bernice's family was summoned to University of Maryland, Charles Regional Medical Center to share in her transition from life to glory. During this time the family prayed, sang songs, whispered sweet thoughts to her, laughed, cried, and remembered the good times. God graced the family to create a last set of beautiful memories that will always be held close in our hearts. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Howard Wade; and sister-in-law, Doris Maddox. To cherish her memories are her husband, Gordon Posey; three children, Barry Thompson (Jacqueline), David Thompson (Meridel), and Thomasina "Tina" Brisbon (Steve); four sisters, Minnie Wade, Constance Jordan (Carl), Daisy Greenfield (Carl), Shirley Borden (Kenny); one brother, James "Mouse" Montgomery; one aunt, Doris Robinson; seven grandchildren, Brianna Thompson, Mya Thompson, Adrienne Thompson, Anaya Brisbon, Ashten Brisbon, Stephanie Brisbon, and Samatha Leigh; one great granddaughter, Sophia Holmes; one stepdaughter Ann Milstead; mother-in-law, Kate Posey; six sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law, and a host of other relative and friends. Viewing, 9 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marbury, Maryland. Interment, Church Cemetery.
