Mary Jean Evans, 79, of Lexington Park, MD passed away Monday, April 7, 2015 at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center. Born on December 21, 1935 in Pearson, MD she was the daughter of the late Enoch Irving Bell and Imelda Teresa Dyson.

On January 21, 1956 Jean married her beloved husband, John Ignatius Evans at Our Lady's Catholic Church in Medley's Neck. Together they celebrated 56 wonderful years before his passing in April 2012.

She was employed by Waring Associates as a Property Manager with over 20 years of dedicated service before her retirement. She and John always had beautiful vegetable gardens that she harvested and canned. She also enjoyed taking care of her flower beds. She was an excellent cook and made delicious desserts; with her German chocolate and coconut cakes being family favorites. A favorite pastime was weekly card games of Pitch. Her greatest love was for her family, in which she enjoyed spending time with. She was an active member of Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD.

Jean is survived by her children, Brenda Hammett (Mike) of St. Mary's City, MD, Carol Johnson of Hollywood, MD and Fae Horsley (Shawn) of Holly Ridge, NC; her sister, Patricia Ann Goodwin of Lexington Park, MD; five grandchildren, Christopher Hammett, Rebecca Young, Melanie Renee Holm, Brandon John Horsley and Shawn Horsley, Jr.; and four great grandchildren, Gavin Young, Selein Sloper, Raychel Hammett, and Kallie Renee Holm. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robbie Johnson.

Family will receive friends for Jean's Life Celebration on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with prayers recited at 4:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Scott Woods on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church, 20408 Point Lookout Road, Great Mills, MD 20634. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Hammett, Daniel Young, Brandon Horsley and Shawn Horsley, Jr.
