Helen Louise McDonald, age 83, of Newburg, MD died on March 31, 2015 at her residence with Hospice.

Helen was a food service worker at the Charles County Public Schools for 17 years and was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Newburg, MD. She also worked as a clerk with Wayside Store.

She liked fishing, bingo, puzzles, and traveling. She was Mrs. Santa Claus at the Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. She treasured her grandchildren and was loved by all she met.

She is the daughter of the late Leonard Thompson and the late Pauline Jenkins Thompson. She is also predeceased by her son, George Leonard Goldsmith; her daughter, Helene Arlene Swann; her brother, Buck Thompson; and her sisters, Viola Haynes and Leona Adderholt.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Raymond L. McDonald; her son, Gary Goldsmith and wife Cindy; her daughters, Joan Roberts, Anita Grimes and husband Gene, and Cindy McDonald; her brothers, Butch Thompson and Billy Thompson; and her sisters, Ann Jones and Ginny Jewel. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Friends received on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with a Wake Service at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11AM at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church Cemetery in Newburg, MD.
