![]() Joseph Edward Coombs entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. He was 66 years old at the time of his passing.
Joseph, also known as Joe, was born on July 8, 1948 in La Plata, MD to the late James Edward Coombs and Mary Martha Coombs. Joseph was educated in the Charles County Public School System. Upon entering the work force, he worked several jobs such as Barnes Chevrolet and construction work until he transitioned to the Charles County School Board as a building service worker. He worked at Lackey High School from 1981-1982, Dr. James Craik Elementary School from 1982-1988, Starkey Administration Building from 1988-1996, and the F. B. Gwynn Educational Center from 1996-2010. Throughout these years, Joseph received numerous recognitions from the Superintendent of Schools for his loyalty and dedication. After 28 years, he finally retired on July 1, 2010. When Joseph was not working, you could always find him outside, playing cards, scratching lottery tickets, playing Keno, and listening to 89.3 on Saturday mornings. Joseph was a friendly and lighthearted person with a contagious laugh, which is why everyone always enjoyed his company. When Joseph was not spending time with family, he was hanging out with his best friend Roy Tolson shooting pool or watching their favorite TV shows, Walker Texas Ranger, NCIS, The Rifleman, and rooting on their favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. In Joseph's younger years, he loved playing sports and was an outfielder for the La Plata Bucks, a local championship softball team. The two most important woman Joseph cherished the most in his life was his mother, Mary Coombs, and his sister, Dianne Coombs. In addition to his parents, Joseph was also preceded in death by his brother, Harry Johnson Coombs. He leaves to cherish one sister, Dianne Coombs, and two brothers, Melvin and David Coombs, two sister-in-laws, Loretta and Marie, and two children, Lamont and Julie. He is also survived by 11 nieces, seven nephews, and a host of other devoted relatives and friends. Friends received on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 9AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.
