Catherine R. (Cole) Clough, 84 of La Plata, MD passed away on February 27, 2015. Catherine was born to Roy and Hazel Cole, farmers in Clarksburg, WV on August 3, 1930.

She learned to work hard and take on responsibilities at an early age. Her three brothers were in the military because of WWII and her father was disabled after an auto accident, so she and her sisters ran the farm (milking cows, planting, raising chickens, cutting hay, etc.).

At the age of 17 Catherine went to Mt. Vernon Academy for her senior year and was named Valedictorian of her Class (1949). She earned a scholarship to CUC. She graduated from nursing school in 1953 and married her soul mate, Les. During their 45 years of marriage they were active in church, community and family life. They were blessed with a daughter, Pam in 1953. She married and gave them two grandsons, Brandon and Peter, and a granddaughter, Alysia, who are now grown and have children of their own, giving her five beautiful great-grandchildren, Brandon, II, Madison, Trey, Jaxon and Wyatt.

Catherine worked as a nurse for 45 years, 27 of which were at Hadley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. In 1995, she retired and cared for Les as he suffered from Alzheimer's, diabetes and multiple strokes. Les worked as a nursing home administrator for many years and later as a real estate agent. He passed away in June of 1998.

Catherine enjoyed singing, playing guitar, gardening and spending time with her family. She was also very active with her church, Waldorf Seventh Day Adventist Church. She will be missed by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) at ADRA International, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904.
