John Alexander Fraser, Jr., 98, of Newburg, MD died February 26, 2015 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, MD. He was born March 17, 1916 in Terry, Montana to the late John Alexander Fraser, Sr. and Hazel Edith Wilson.
He was a WWII Veteran serving as a Master Sergeant on General Eisenhower's planning staff for Operation Overlord, the 1944 Invasion of Normandy. Assigned the task of mapping and planning logistics for the invasion, M.Sgt. Fraser was on the "Bigot List" of those soldiers enlisted with the date, the location of the landing beaches and other details. After the war, Mr. Fraser worked in military intelligence and military mapping with a variety of DOD offices. He was happily married to his only love Pearl for 62 years. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Pearl, John is survived by two sons; John A. Fraser III and his wife Laura of Clifton, VA and James P. Fraser and his wife Elaine of Damascus, MD, three daughters; Katherine L. Lyons of Nederland, Colorado, Patricia A. Fraser Garland and her husband Earl of Boyds, MD and Elizabeth J. Shanahan and her husband Joe of Silver Spring, MD, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Donations in memory of John are requested to The Humane Society of Charles County, Inc., P.O. A visitation will be on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 2:00PM until time of service at 3:00PM at Raymond Funeral Service 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646.
