Fannie Irish died January 3, 2015 at Charles County Nursing and Rehab Home in La Plata, MD. Born on March 2, 1925 in King George, VA she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Rollins. She was the youngest of ten children all deceased. She married Wesley Clyde Thompson, a Navy Career man in 1941. They lived in Temple Hills, MD during this time. He died in 1950. In 1999 at age 75 she married Charles Goodwin Irish, Jr. He passed away in 2000. Fannie retired from National Geographic Society in Gaithersburg, MD after 33 years of service. She loved her job and made many friends throughout her career. Upon her retirement, she moved to La Plata where her son and his family lived. She became active in local Senior Center. She belonged to the 2'n'1 Club and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing bridge and met Charles at the bridge table. Fannie enjoyed gardening and all of nature, the flowering of the trees and the blooming of the daffodils. She is survived by her children, Wesley Thompson, Jr. and his wife. Evelyn of LaPlata, MD and Denise Ruby, and her husband, Dale of Hagerstown, MD: grandchildren, Dale Scott Ruby, and his wife Heather of Knoxville, MD, and Craig Thompson and his wife, Jill of LaPlata, MD: and great grandchildren, Mallory, Nicholas, and Michael Thompson of LaPlata, MD and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9th from 11 until service time at 12 noon at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, MD. Interment will be at a later date.
