Bernard Elsworth Montgomery, Sr. departed this life on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, Maryland. Born on May 5, 1953 to the late Reginald and Alice Montgomery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Jeffery and John Montgomery, sisters-in-law, Catherine Ford and Lucille Price and brothers-in-law, John Ford, Sr., John Price, Ernest Ford, Sr., Paul Coates, James Ford and William Ford. He was educate in the Charles County Public School System in Maryland. He was employed with the Washington Star in Washington, DC and the Charles County Board of Education, LaPlata, MD for thirty years until his retirement in March 2014. He believed that Thomas Stone High School could not function without him. He loved his job and co-workers as family. He married his sweetheart Tweetybird, Shirley Montgomery on May 5, 1978 and from that union three sons were conceived, they were his pride and joy. He was definitely hard-headed and you could not tell him anything because he knew everything. He loved to dance, had a love for the Washington Redskins, watching his westerns and sitting in his truck reading the daily newspaper. His favorite past time was playing the daily lottery, which he did until the very end. Bernard leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife Shirley and three sons, Bernard Jr. (Tammy), Steven (Tee) and Mark Jerry (Tiffany) Montgomery, eight grandchildren, Travaun, Dae'Shona, Mark Jr, Azayiah ,Steven Jr, James and Avery Bland and K'la Coates, seven brothers, Reginald Grafton, Jr (Liz), Lionel, Sr. (Mae), Thomas Michael (Diltricia), Calvin (Dalisa), Melvin (Wanda), Alvin and Rodney Lamar Montgomery; three sisters, Shelia (John) Ford, Theresa (Fabian) Carroll and Eunice (Eric) Riley, sisters-in-law, Frances Ford, Dorothy Ford, Gladys (Leo Butler) Coates, Frances (Jerome) Lyles, Elizabeth Montgomery, Elaine (Daniel) Jenifer and Barbara Ford, brothers-in law, Charles (Sheila) Kelly and Thomas (Helen) Jenifer; godchildren Joseph Lyles, Darnell and Daphne Carroll and Jazmyne Keys and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Viewing, 9:30am to 10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00am, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland.
