John Francis Hardesty, 86, of La Plata, MD died November 27, 2014 at his residence.

John was the Assistant Finance Director with Charles County Government for 20 plus years and a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Corporal during the Korean conflict. He was also a member of the Lions Club, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was a graduate of Strayer College and a member of their fraternity. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as a Lector and was a volunteer with his friend, Herb Buckmaster at the Jude House in Bel Alton.

He is the son of the late John Francis Hardesty, Sr. and the late Esther L. Mayer Hardesty. He is also predeceased by his brother, William F. Hardesty, Sr. and a step-son, Douglas Shwien. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Helen Finch Hardesty; his children, Brenda, Corky, John, and Anne; his step-child, Jan Donovan; his brother, Paul Uron Hardesty; and his sister, Joyce Suit Cooksey. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends received on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 10AM until Funeral Service time at 12PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
