![]() Michael Walter Barris of Waldorf, Maryland died on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. He was 72 years old. Born on November 20, 1941 in Paterson, New Jersey he was the son of the late Nellie Van Leeuwen and the late Michael Barris.
Mr. Barris served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963 when he was Honorably Discharged as the rank of Lance Corporal. He then worked for Metro in Washington, DC as a Bus Driver for 39 years. He was a member of the Transit Union. Mr. Barris enjoyed rooting for the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Orioles and his favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin. As a hobby, Mr. Barris was a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna M. Barris; his children Bill Edge and his wife Cheryl, Richard Edge, Sandy, Lynn, and Jeff Barris,; his sisters Sue and Carol; his brother Kevin; his grandchildren William Charles, Camdin Michael, Devin, Alleigh, Zachary, Joshua, Jesse, Logan and Luke; his mother-in-law Daisy Grimes; Niece Terrie Harty (who was at his side); other relatives and friends. Visitation on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 10AM until 10:45AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph Way, Pomfret, MD with Mass to begin at 11AM with Father Stokes officiating. Interment to follow at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery with Marine Corps honors. Arrangements provided by Raymond Funeral Service. |
