Catherine Marion Cooksey, 98, passed away on October 25, 2014 at her home in Dentsville with Hospice. She was the daughter of Robert A. Thompson and Julia Ulrich Thompson and step-daughter of Annie Cooksey Thompson.

Catherine was born on June 28, 1916 in the District of Columbia and lived the majority of her life in Southern Maryland. She was a homemaker, accomplished artist in oil and water color painting, woodcarver, seamstress, and taught sewing and classes on recycling crafts. She loved dancing, bowling, billiards, and doll collecting. She was a member of the Black-Eyed Susan Doll Club and the Powder Puff Pool League at the Richard Clark Senior Center in La Plata.

In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her loving husband Guy Leroy Cooksey; her sister, Jeannette West; half-sister, Rennie Hancock; and her dear friend, Morty Welch.

She is survived by her son, Guy Leroy Cooksey Jr. and his wife Ellen; her daughter Joan Cooksey Mitchell and her husband Bob; grandchildren, Steve Cooksey, Bernie Cooksey, Pam Newman, Paula Connick, Cyndi Bilbra, and Keith Rollins; 12 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Friends received on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 9AM until the Funeral Service beginning at 11AM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 and officiated by Reverend Edward Chance. Interment will be at the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers: Bernie Cooksey, Keith Rollins, Donnie Cooksey, Drew Lenhart, Tommy Willey, Kyle Deavers, and Trey Cooksey. Honorary pallbearers: Steve Cooksey and Jason Durner.
