![]() Robert H. Rock, 77, of California, MD passed away on October 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family after a long bout with cancer. Robert was born in Greenfield, MA on January 2, 1937, the son of the late Clifford M. and Margie (Hughes) Rock.
He attended Elementary School in Erving Center and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, class of 1955. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy as an Airman Recruit and retired honorably as a Chief Petty Officer in 1974. During his naval career, Bob served in a variety of positions, including Night check Maintenance Supervisor for P-3 aircraft, Aircrew on P-3 series aircraft, and was instrumental in establishing a fleet training program for P-3 maintenance personnel. Among his awards included the Navy Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work in the private sector with Tracor on the TSC program. Eighteen months later he reentered government service and went to work at the ASW R&M Department. He retired from civil service as a GS13 in 1994 and consulted until 1998 to NAVAIRSYSCOM on P3 FMS cases for Korea and Pakistan. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra of 54 years, son Robert and wife Dawn of Mechanicsville, Michael and his wife Kimberly of Hollywood and grandchildren Victoria, Elizabeth, Kyle, and Conner. Also survived by his sister Sandra Hoskin of Asheville, NC. and sisters-in-law Bonnie (Francis) O'Sullivan of Greenfield, MA; Diane (Charlie) Rinehart and Kristie (John) Yarasavych of Lake Worth, FL and nieces and nephews. Bob was a diehard Red Sox fan and enjoyed golf and perennial flower gardening. He was a member of the FRA, a Master Mason, member of the Scottish Rite 32 degree and Boumi Temple Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. Family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Rd., Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be held at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. on October 31, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Southern Maryland Animal Welfare League (SMAWL), P.O. Box 1232 Leonardtown, MD 20650.
