On Saturday October 11, 2014 before sunrise, God Our Father saw it fit to call Joyce Romaine Herbert from her labor to her reward at Medstar St. Mary's Hospital. Joyce was born November 23, 1961 in Leonardtown, MD, to Wallace and Genevieve Berry. She was the sixth of seven children and received her early education in St. Mary's County Public Schools.

She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and served at PotterHouse Apostolic Church (formerly known as Greater Morning Star). Joyce graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1980.

In 1981, she met the love of her life, Tyvie Herbert Sr. To this union, two children were born, LaToya and Tyvie Jr.

Joyce was employed by various employers over the years; Library of Congress, BAE Systems, Pathways and was currently employed by Quantell Inc. in Washington, DC.

Joyce was highly regarded as someone who was fun and loving; never met a stranger. She loved her family, church family, and most of all, The Lord Jesus Christ. Joyce was a product of PotterHouse Apostolic Church where she was a member for 15 years. She served faithfully on the usher and hospitality boards under the leadership of Pastor William H. Williams Jr. She loved lifting up the name of the Lord through singing, always being the first one to grab the mic at family functions or quoting her favorite scripture "5Trust in the Lord with all thine Heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

One of her favorite past times was sitting on the phone talking with her sisters various times throughout the day. She loved reading the Bible, Face Timing with her grandson and listening to gospel music. She was crazy about her family and deeply loved her husband. Throughout all of her health challenges, she kept her faith in God and her husband embodied what it is to love through sickness and health.

Her brothers, Joseph Berry, David Berry and her Godmother, Lucille Berry preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish in memory her husband of 28 years, Tyvie Herbert Sr. ; daughter, LaToya Brown (Kirk), of Charleston, SC and son, Tyvie Herbert Jr., of Walnut Creek, CA. She also leaves to cherish a loving father and mother, Wallace and Genevieve Berry, of Valley Lee MD; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Regina Holt, of Mechanicsville, MD; four sisters, Mary Lou Cutcumber (Melvin), of Valley Lee MD, Jacqueline Berry (John), of Hollywood MD, Yvonne Thompson, of Baltimore MD, Iona Crowder, of Montgomery, AL; four brothers, Wallace Berry (Paulette), of Temple Hills, MD, Charles Berry, of Washington D.C, Ronald Berry Sr. (Ester), of Valley Lee, MD, Michael Berry (Debra), of Lexington Park, MD; one grandson, Kameron Brown, of Charleston, SC and one special niece, Chiton Berry, of Baltimore, MD; three Godchildren, Ebony Brehon, Toniyette Lawrence and George Crowder, Jr. and three special sisters, Roxanne White-Williams, Dynette Johnson and Iverifuella Johnson; four sisters-in law, Constance Herbert (Darnell), of Mechanicsville, MD, Doris Herbert, of Lexington Park, MD, Mary Smith (Andrew), of Baltimore, MD and Lola Willis, of Baltimore, MD; seven brothers-in- law, James Holt (Terry), of Mechanicsville, MD, Martin Holt, of Upper Marlboro, MD, James Carter (Josette), of Clements, MD, Roderick Thomas, of Harrisburg, PA and Joseph Herbert Jr., Raymond Holt Jr. and Eric Holt, all of Mechanicsville, MD and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Family will unite with friends on Monday, October 20, 2014 for visitation at 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 am at First Missionary Baptist Church, 46370 Pegg Lane, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653.
