![]() "Sonny" as he was affectionately known throughout the community left this life peacefully on October 11, 2014 at The Woodlands in Ocean Pines, Md. He was a devoted husband and father while serving his community in many service roles throughout his career.
Raised in Waldorf, MD he graduated from La Plata High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air Force which led to Officer Candidate School. He was stationed in England for multiple tours and was a member of the USAF's European traveling soccer team. After leaving active duty he remained in the reserves at Dover, Andrews and Bowling Air Force Bases, retiring as a Major in the Air Force. His civilian career centered on the rehabilitation of both adult and juveniles with criminal pasts. He started as a probation and parole officer for the state of Virginia in the 1960's and later became the director at the Delaware state juvenile facility in Wilmington. In 1976 he became the director of the Boys & Girls Homes of Montgomery County, Maryland. He held this position for over fifteen years and improved the lives of many juveniles and young adults. In his semi-retirement years he held positions with many organizations, Director of Lions Camp Merrick (serving Blind, Deaf & Diabetic children) for seven years; he was a member of Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Rotary International, VFW and was a member of Waldorf Lions Club (lifetime member). He served also as Lions Club International District 22C Governor for the Lions year 2006-2007. He was preceded in death by his father (Quanah Finley Parker Sr.), mother (Rosa Parker Moses) and his step-father (M. J. Moses). He leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife Betty Moore Parker, his former spouse Billie Harrison Parker, his Brothers, Dan Parker, George Moses and Sister Christy Moses Bauman; his children, Daniel, Joseph, Kendra Parker Moore, and Cynthia Parker D'Alonzo; his step-children, George Moore, Robbie Moore, Kristie Moore; eight grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Friends received on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with a Wake Service at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 18, 2014 beginning at 10AM at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment at a later date at the MD Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD with Air Force Honors.
