Serving Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's. Families of children and young adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities share one special word: expectation. And, fulfilling those expectations is what The Arc of Southern Maryland brings to those families. Dedicated to supporting people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities, our not-for-profit organization was extended into the region in 1975 by parents who were advocating on behalf of their children. Today, the diversity of our programs is amazing. We find affordable, supported or independent housing, provide education and employment opportunities and make sure there are fun things to do. The Arc's programs reach out to members of the family in need with care and understanding.
