It is said the Eagle is used as a national emblem because at one of the first battles of the Revolution the noise from the struggle awoke the sleeping Eagles high atop the tallest of trees. They flew from their nests, circling overhead and venting raucous cries. “They are shrieking for freedom!” said the patriots.

The love of freedom and the value of security are reflected among the goals of the Commissioners of Charles County: dedication to a high level of public safety, efficient and effective government, vibrant livable communities, forward-looking comprehensive planning, and the protection of our heritage and environment.
