Public and private libraries in and around Southern Maryland.
COSMOS is the on-line library catalog and reservation system for the Southern Maryland library system (Calvert, Charles & St. Mary's counties). You can use the catalog to search for materials in all affiliated libraries (including local high school libraries) and reserve them for pickup at your local branch. There is even an option to request materials from other state libraries when you can't find what you need locally. You can also renew materials that you currently have out on loan.
Maryland AskUsNow!, the free online service that provides Marylanders with answers to questions, research guidance and help navigating the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At www.askusnow.info, anyone can type a question and chat back and forth with a professional librarian and receive trusted information when and where they need it. People can also access this innovative service by selecting the bright yellow AskUsNow! icon on partner library web sites.
Maryland AskUsNow! brings together the experience and resources of the state's public, academic and special libraries. None of the participating libraries could offer this service alone, but through cooperation they can. As part of a national network, the librarians share night and weekend coverage with libraries from around the country. In addition to the live chat service, subject specialists are available to respond by e-mail to questions requiring more extensive investigation. These often include topics requiring business research, the law, hard to find statistics, or historical questions such as those involving genealogy.
This project is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant funds, through the Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Library Development & Services, and provided by the partner libraries.
