It’s Leonardtown First Friday and The Leonardtown Vintage Market (LVM) is open Saturday, May 7th from 8am to 5pm. With a great selection of painted, vintage and antique furniture, home décor (pictures, paintings, mirrors), clothing, jewelry, skin care and much more, you’re sure to find a treasure (or two) to take home! Located across the street from the old courthouse, we look forward to seeing you on this weekend! For updates on the latest events and happenings at LVM follow us on Facebook at Boutique De Garcia by Sonia – Leonardtown Vintage Market.

Leonardtown First Friday is celebrating our First Responders. There will be local fire and rescue volunteers and law enforcement professionals with emergency vehicles and other displays set up on the square. Bring your kids to town to see our county's heroes and take a moment to thank them.

Local musicians, Joe and David Norris, will be performing on The Square. Enjoy their amplified guitar and vocals in a variety of classic folk favorites and wonderful original songs.

Calling All Vendors. The LVM will host several Flea Markets from May through October on the beautiful green outside the shop /across from the courthouse. We’ve had such an interest from our customers that we’ve started putting together our list of potential vendors/artisans. Whether you’re an old pro or a new flea market vendor, it’s a fun way to spend a weekend. We’re currently working on dates for the flea markets and will provide that information as soon as we have it.    Solomons Maritime Festival
Location: Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons, Maryland    View Map
Date: 5/7/2016
Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Time: 5:00 PM (07:00 Duration)

Celebrate Southern Maryland heritage on Saturday, May 7 at the Calvert Marine Museum’s 11th annual Solomons Maritime Festival. Antique boats and marine engines, master maritime carvers, crafts and cooking demonstrations, traditional music, and boat rides offer something for every member of your family from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Admission to the festival and museum is FREE.

On Saturday, the museum waterfront comes alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of Southern Maryland traditions. Taste traditional foods, learn how to pick crabs, shuck oysters, and stuff a ham like the pros, enjoy local gospel and old time music, see Chesapeake Bay retrievers in action, watch model boats skim the waters of the boat basin, talk with traditional crafts people as they demonstrate their skills. Children will enjoy toy boat building and more! Don’t miss free rides aboard the historic bugeye, the Wm. B. Tennison.

Traditional crafts are also celebrated on Saturday. Around the carving shed, visitors can see how crab and eel pots are constructed, see model boat makers in action, and watch traditional carvers at work. Come try your skill inside the museum! Demonstrations of embroidery, knitting, and other textile crafts will be on-going. Home baked goodies will be available for sale and food vendors will be on-site.

New activities this year include oyster growing and tasting demonstrations with Southern Maryland Shellfish Growers Association (SMSGA), waterfowl calling and beekeeper demonstrations.

The Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show, now in its 16th year, is a popular component of the festival. Enthusiasts from across the country set-up camp in the parking lot to show off their vintage boats and engines. The unofficial engine swap is a great way to expand your collection. The Patuxent Small Craft Guild will also host a Nautical Flea Market with all proceeds supporting the Guild.

The Solomons Maritime Festival is sponsored by Calvert County Board of Commissioners, Calvert County Watermen’s Association, Community Bank of the Chesapeake, Holiday Inn Solomons, McCready Boat Yard, Papa John’s Pizza, Patuxent Small Craft Guild, Spring Cove Marina, Washburn’s Boat Yard, and Zahniser’s Yachting Center. For more information, please call Sherry Reid at 410-326-2042 x 19, or visit the museum website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com.

The goal of the golf tournament is to help defray costs of student participation in SkillsUSA regional, state and national competitions.

The SkillsUSA Championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. Your contributions to the Forrest Center’s Golf Tournament will help ensure deserving St. Mary’s County High School students are eligible to compete.

The school is seeking tournament sponsors at Red, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. All sponsors will receive pre and post-event publicity, have their names prominently displayed at the golf tournament and receive “Level” benefits.

Gold sponsorship is a $1,500 donation and includes a tournament foursome, 8 mulligans and hole sponsorship/signage. Silver sponsorship is a $1,000 donation and includes a tournament twosome, 4 mulligans and hole sponsorship/signage. Bronze sponsorship is a $500 donation and includes hole sponsorship/signage. The Forrest Center’s SkillsUSA chapter is among the most successful in the state and annually must fundraise over $25,000 to cover the cost of leadership training, chapter activities and regional, state & national competitions.

Registration for each golfer is $75, which covers green fees, cart, on-course refreshments and lunch. A donation to SkillsUSA is also included in the fee. Space for the tournament is limited and reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
