When: Saturday, January 30, 2016, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Darnall's Chance House Museum (14800 Governor Oden Bowie Dr, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772).

Raise a dram to the life and legacy of Robert Burns. Remember the bard of Scotland and celebrate Darnall's Chance's Scottish roots on Saturday, January 30 with a traditional Burns Night, including supper, haggis, poems and bagpipes!

Robert Burns (January, 25, 1759 - July 21, 1796), considered Scotland's favorite son, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English.

He is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic Movement, and after his death he became a great source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism. He is a cultural icon in Scotland and among the Scottish Diaspora around the world.

This celebration of his life and work became almost a national charismatic cult during the 19th and 20th centuries, and his influence has long been strong in Scottish literature.

As well as writing original compositions, Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland, often revising or adapting them. His poem (and song) "Auld Lang Syne" is often sung on New Year's Eve and "Scots Wha Hae" served for a long time as an unofficial national anthem of the country.

This event is for those 21 and older. Reservation and payment required in advance. Tickets are $45 for residents and $54 for non-residents.
