The story of Clara and her nutcracker doll has delighted audiences since it premiered in 1892. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky's immortal music, "The Nutcracker Ballet" has been a holiday ritual for American audiences for many years. The parade of delightful scenes—the children on Christmas morning, the Kingdom of Sweets, the various national dances performed by costumed characters—presents a child's view of the season and is arguably the most performed ballet.

The performance will feature dancers of all ages from The Studio Cooperative in Waldorf and the local community, who will be performing choreography by Nicole Buggé, of Buggé Ballet from New York City. Southern Maryland audiences will have the opportunity to be a part of this yearly holiday tradition!

Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

2016-12-03T19:00 2016-12-03T21:30 America/New_York Nutcracker Ballet The story of Clara and her nutcracker doll has delighted audiences since it premiered in 1892. Groups of 10 or more can receive a discount. It is Christmas Eve, 1936. William Gillette, an actor famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. This glittering whodunit has murder, infidelity, wit, and surprises—something for everyone.

Newtowne Players are partnering with the Southern Maryland Food Bank this holiday season to help collect food for those in need. Theatergoers are encouraged to bring a canned/nonperishable food item to the performance. For each item donated, attendees will receive an entry into a drawing to win a basket of holiday goodies!
