The SkillsUSA chapter at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center is hosting a 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The event takes place at Woodlawn, which is located at 16040 Woodlawn Drive, Ridge, MD 20680. Runners of all ages are invited to participate. The cost to register is $25 for ages 6-adult. Children 5 and younger are free. There are discounts for running club members or group sign-ups. Event t-shirts cost $15. Prizes will be awarded for category winners based on age and gender: juniors age 5-12, students age 13-18, adults age 19-49 and masters age 49+.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Forrest Center’s SkillsUSA chapter, which is among the most successful in the state. To participate in the event, go to the Forrest Center’s website at: schools.smcps.org/tech/ and click on the “REGISTER for the run” link.

Sideline Bluegrass band makes a first time visit at the 5th concert of the American Legion Bluegrass series along with the local Americana trio, 15 Strings. The concert will be held on Sunday April 2 at the American Legion Post 238 on the corner of MD Rt. 381 & MD RT. 231 in Hughesville, MD. Joining them on the American Legion concert will be 15 Strings, an acoustic trio offering music across many genres including Bluegrass and Americana.

Tickets for the American Legion Bluegrass concert for Sunday April 2 are $15.00 per person. Children under 12 are admitted free with a paid adult. You can purchase tickets by mail by sending a check made payable to “Jay Armsworthy” and mail to P.O. Box 741, California, MD 20619. Tickets will be held at the door.

All shows begin at 2:00 pm with the doors opening at Noon. Fried chicken or pulled pork platters to include Cole slaw & French fries will INDEFIENTLY be the food of choice at the remaining shows provided by the Sons of the American Legion. Although it is not a requirement, you are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Helping Hands Food Bank in Southern Maryland. Come share in the craziness of the house with the artist/playwright, the ballerina/candy maker, the printer/xylophone player, the model builder/fireworks constructor and all of their friends who live under one roof even though they are not related. The messes they get themselves into as they converge with the high society Kirbys creates fun for the entire audience!
