Earl Bernard Willis, 94 of Charlotte Hall Veterans Home passed away on July 3, 2014. Born on August 9, 1919 in Amherst, VA he is the son of the late Bernard Willis and Gertrude Willis.

Earl was retired from the U.S. Air Force and additionally served in the Army Air Corp as a radio technician during World War 2 flying as a crew member on the B-25 bomber. Earl survived being shot down by German anti-aircraft guns, a plane crash over the Mediterranean Sea in 1943, drifting at sea and eventual being picked up by the German Navy. He was then captured, imprisoned as Prisoner of War, participated in four escape attempts, succeeding on the fifth attempt escaping to Poland.

Earl was a member of various veterans' organizations including the American Legion, DAV, VFW, etc. Prior to Earl's passing he was a resident at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, popular for his many stories and was visited by many including local schools where Earl told his story. His beloved wife Nancy was faithfully at his side daily and Earl was adored by all who live there.

Earl is predeceased by a son, Robert Matthew Willis and survived by his loving wife Nancy Willis of Waldorf, MD, his daughter Sharon Chucci of Forestville, MD., son Robert McDaniel from Arkansas and two grandsons Maurice (Mo) and Adam.

A visitation will be held at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland on Friday July 11, 2014 from 10am to 12pm where the service will begin at 12 Noon. The burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
