Roger Thomas Swann departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at University of Maryland, Charles Regional Medical Center, formerly known as Civista Medical Center.

Roger was born, February 8, 1946 to the late James and the late Alice Swann in Marbury, Maryland. He was educated in the Charles County School System.

After graduating high school, Roger joined the Job Corps in Oregon where he learned a trade. Upon completing Job Corps he returned to this area and began working for the Charles County School System. In the late 70's he began working for Butch Waste Management Company and he worked there for 15 years. He had another job which was selling candy and soda to family and friends.

Roger was a daddy to all his nieces and nephews, especially around the time of Christmas. He was famous for his delicious homemade eggnog which made everyone extremely happy. Roger also had a great passion for football and always cheered for his Washington Redskins. To know him was to love him.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Michael A. Dyer and niece, Candace Swann.

Left to cherish many fond memories are his sister, Alice Faye Shaw; two brothers, James E. Swann, Sr. and David Wayne Swann, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Yvonne Swann who was a dedicated caretaker for him up until his death and Brenda Swann; aunt, Romaine Sims and uncle, Steve Thomas. Also surviving are his God-daughter, Calese Williams and best friend, Joseph Allen Mason.

Roger helped raise his nieces and nephews; Taneasha, Jermaine, David and James Swann, Jr.; Terry Price, Keisha Beal, Lettisha and Paulette Shaw; and the late Candace Swann. Roger had many great nieces and nephews who were all his helpers; Jareika Swann who was his home nurse and Jasmine, Jameya, Janyiah, Jamonie, Quenasha and Serria. Roger will be greatly missed.

His viewing will be held from 9:00am until time of service 11:00am on Friday, August 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640.

Interment, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Marbury, MD.
