Elizabeth "Liz" C. Berry Veramendi of Waldorf, MD died on June 29, 2013 at the Waldorf Center Genesis Healthcare at the age of 59.

She was a retired Lt. Commander with the United States Navy, having served world-wide for 22 years and 6 years with the Federal Government service.

She was also a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD. Prior to serving in the Navy, she attended ASU, Oxford University, and George Washington University where she earned an M.A. Degree and then became an elementary and middle school teacher with the Virginia Beach Public School System.

She was considered for the NASA Teacher in Space Program and was a Torchbearer for the 1996 Olympics. She was screened by Hollywood for appearances in soap operas and was a long-time supporter of the Red Cross.

She loved teaching, music (she was a good guitarist), sports, photography, and was a renowned artist. She loved the beach, traveling, birds, and especially dolphins. She loved her pets Odie, Snoopy, Buster, Cadria, and Max.

Daughter of the late Robert Ernest Berry and the late Saide Melekoglu Berry. She is survived by her one adopted son, Alexander Aiden Berry Veramendi; one brother, Robert E. Berry, Jr.; one sister, Barbara Berry; two uncles, Ali and Ahmet Melekoglu; two nieces, Jennifer Brooks and Tara Berry; and two nephews, Michael and Robert Berry III.

Visitation on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 11AM-12PM with Mass of Christian Burial at 12PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
