Janet Marie "Jan" Smith, 54, of Waldorf, MD, formerly of Meadville, PA, passed away at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD on May 24, 2013.

She was born on November 6, 1958 in Greenville, PA, daughter of the late Janet Mae (McCauley) Wells of Warren, PA and the late Louis K. Burch of Steubenville, OH.

Jan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired as a bindery worker with Eagle Direct Mail and was a member of the Waldorf Jaycee's. Jan enjoyed playing slot machines, taking care of her rosebushes, and using Facebook to connect with family and friends.

Jan is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Smith of Waldorf, MD; son, David "Dave" W. Moyer (Fiancée, Stephanie Waltz) of Chambersburg, PA; brother, Charles Kumalaa of Ohio; sisters, Karen Heberling of Conneaut Lake, PA, Sharon Waid (Thomas) of Meadville, PA, Kathleen Burch of Jessup, MD; and 1 granddaughter, Sydney Moyer.

Family and friends will be received for Jan's Life Celebration Memorial Gathering on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. There will be a Memorial Service at the funeral home beginning at 7:00 PM on Wednesday. An additional Memorial Service and Inurnment will be held in Genava, PA on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Greenwood VFD.
