Philip Briscoe Swann, 94, of Hollywood, MD formerly of Hyattsville, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 20, 2012 in Callaway, MD. Born on July 18, 1918 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Philip Briscoe and Viola Catherine Lawrence Swann.

Philip was the loving husband of Charlotte V. (Morris) Swann whom he married in 1948.

Mr. Swann is survived by his brother Kenneth Swann of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Bernard Martin (Reds) Swann, Anthony Swann, Sr., Regina Swann Flecker, and Lawrence Swann.

Philip graduated from Eastern High School in 1938, and went on to serve in the United States Army Parachute Infantry from July 3, 1941 to November 15, 1945; he served in WWII in Central Europe, American Defense Service, and earned the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Swann worked as a Pressman for Merkle Press in Glen Dale, MD for 36 years retiring May 20, 1981.

Philip was a member of the Graphic Communication Conferences, International Brotherhood of Teamsters-Local 72, his hobbies included history, fishing, crabbing, watching Redskins football, and National's baseball team.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery Suitland, MD.
