George McPherson Bowling, Jr., 79, of Hughesville, MD, passed away at his residence on August 23, 2012, with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 23, 1932 to the late Mary Catherine and George McPherson Bowling, Sr. in Washington, DC.

George was a Sales Rep at Exxon Corporation for 20 years; he then owned and operated two Exxon stations in Waldorf until he retired in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he was an animal lover, and he especially loved dogs. George was also a lifetime member of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Treasurer and Engineer for many years and played an instrumental part in the construction of the present firehouse.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Ebert.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Bowling of Hughesville, MD, whom he met while serving in the U.S. Army in 1955 in Muskegon, MI; his four children, Catherine Jordan (Ed), George "Mac" Bowling III (Barbara), Theresa Keyes (Steve), and Harry "Rick" Bowling; his grandchildren, Frederick Moore, Amanda Turner (Robert), Krista Keyes, George "Mac" Bowling IV, Caitlyn Fiolka (Alex), Elizabeth Bowling, and Jordan Bowling; and his great-grandchildren, Louie and Andrew Turner.

Family and friends will be received for George's Life Celebration on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 4-7PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Mass will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012, 11:00AM at St. Mary's Bryantown Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Rev. Conley will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at the Church Cemetery in Bryantown.

Pallbearers will be: Mac Bowling IV, Frederick Moore, William Bowling, Donald Keyes, Skip Bowling, Steve Long, Dave Feinburg, and Steve Harris.
