Dorothy (Irene) Curlis Bailey, 87, passed away on June 6, 2012 at Asbury, Solomons, MD. Dorothy was born on September 9, 1924 in Cherryvale, Kansas to the late Frank Howard Curlis and Leona May (Oden) Curlis.

She was married to Joseph C. Bailey for 48 years and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1991.

She was also predeceased by sister Neva Cantrell.

She has a remaining sister Daryle Knight whom resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dorothy is survived by her children: Linda Martin (John) and Irene Parrish (Len); as well as her four grandchildren: Holly Snyder, Gene Graves, Patrick Donovan, and Bill Martin; and her loving five great-grandchildren, Dustin Duke, Kelsey Duke, Miranda Donovan, Jack Donovan, and Ethan Snyder.

Dorothy was a civil servant in Washington, D.C. and then Patuxent Naval Air Station retiring in 1968. Additionally, she was an employee of Dr. Handy Eye Care and Attorney's at Law; John Rue and then John Pleisse. She and her husband, Joseph Bailey, were charter members of the Lexington Park Baptist Church and Leonardtown Baptist Church, enjoying many years teaching young children and challenging them to use their Bibles and learn their love of the Lord. Dorothy was an active member of Baptist's Women's MIssion Organization.

She enjoyed many hobbies, was a competitive bowler, enthusiastic crabber and fisherman, and passionate reader and crocheter, and in later years she was a member of the Ridge Lion's Club. Dorothy was a wonderful Wife, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother and was the heart of the family with her unique sense of humor. In her later years, she was comforted by the excellent care and fellowship received from the wonderful staff at Asbury's.

Family will receive friends of Dorothy Bailey on Monday, June 11, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Mike Jones at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20604.
