Merkel, Julia Lynn, 49, of Waldorf, Maryland formerly of Mitchellville. She died suddenly on June 3, 2011. She was born in Washington, DC on May 7, 1962 and is the daughter of May Ottey and the late Robert Lee Ottey.

She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Julia was known as the neighborhood mom and loved children. She enjoyed music, crafts, swimming, shooting pool and animals. She was devoted to her family and friends who will miss her greatly.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her brothers, Hugh R. Ottey, Matthew L. Ottey, James D. (Mary) Ottey and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother Mark A. Ottey.

Friends may call at the Brinsfield-Echols Life Celebration Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622 on Tuesday, June 7th from 6 to 8PM and where funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 8th at 11AM. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.
