Dorsey, Alice Elizabeth (Age 80) of Waldorf, Maryland.

Alice was born on October 24, 1930 to the late Dorothy Cecilia Johnson and the late James Bernard Dorsey.

Alice was educated in the Charles County Public School System. She worked for Audrey M. Conner, M.D. and the late George A. Kelser, M.D. for over 40 years in Bethesda, Maryland. She retired in 1998 to care for her only grandson.

Alice had a quiet, humble spirit, and she was deeply loved by all whose lives she touched. She was the eldest sister and was respected by all family. She was revered as a matriarch by everyone who knew her. Her sister, Evelyn, lovingly said "She was and is our shepherd, and we were her flock".

She had a strong love for baseball, and spent many hours watching the sport with one of her closet siblings, Ernest, who loved the game as much as she did. She loved to play cards with her family and friends. She had a passion for cooking and you could always count on a delicious home-cooked meal whenever she was around.

She loved all of her family deeply but she had a strong connection to: Karen Kelser, her self-proclaimed daughter whom she nurtured for over forty years; her nieces, Joyce Yates and Terry Glascoe; and Edward Toyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Dorsey; her brothers, Elmer Dorsey, John Dorsey, Joseph Dorsey, Francis Dorsey, and Oscar Dorsey.

On Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at her home in Waldorf, Maryland and surrounded by her family, Alice peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to life eternal.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda M. Dunbar; grandson, Cedric L. Dunbar; son-in-law, Leon L. Dunbar, Sr., self-proclaimed daughter, Karen Kelser and her husband, Khaled Hamami and daughters, Imani and Dina, stepmother, Alice E. Dorsey, six sisters: Mary Hicks, Dorothy Goldring, Evelyn Mikel, June Maclin, Alice Plater, and Carolyn Briscoe, two brothers: Louis Steven Bowman and James "Pat" Dorsey and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.

Her Viewing, will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newport (11555 St. Mary's Church Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622). Interment, Church Cemetery.
