Melissa (Missy) Francine Swann-Adams transitioned from her earthly life of servitude to her heavenly place with our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland. She was born September 30, 1966, to Sterling Roscoe Swann Sr. and Carolyn Francine Swann. She was their only daughter but is survived by her brother, Rev. Sterling Roscoe Swann Jr. She was 43 years old when the Lord called her home.

In February of 1985, Melissa gave birth to her first son, Sean. In 1987, she met Kirby Adams Sr. of Clinton, MD. Their union produced three children: Marc, Jena, and Caleb. Melissa and Kirby were married on May 16, 2003. She also is well loved and remembered by her step-son Kirby Adams Jr. She introduced her children to God at an early age. She is the grandmother of Domonick Dyson, Caleb Swann Jr., and Kenya Adams. She was also an aunt to Alisha Swann. She was devoted to her children and gave selflessly to anyone in need.

Melissa was a 1985 graduate of Henry E. Lackey High School in Indian Head, Md. She attended Vocational school to further her education. She was employed with the U.S. Census Bureau. She also began her own business as a web designer for Swann Computer Technologies and Associates until she, due to her illness, was no longer able to provide services to her clients.

Melissa was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marbury, Maryland. She recognized and welcomed the Lord as her Savior at an early age. She was a member of the church choir when she was young. She always gave a warm welcome to anyone she met. When she was too weak to attend, she had her own service at home with the Lord on Sundays. She was most proud of her children and her parents. Although she was very ill for many years, Missy always had a smile on her face and kind words to say. She lived through the words of her favorite psalm, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear…" Psalm 27.

Melissa leaves behind to love and cherish her memory, her parents, a husband, 5 children, 1 brother, 3 grandchildren, 6 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law, 25 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, 7 aunts, 5 uncles and a host of family and friends.

Her Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5560 Pleasant Grove Road, Marbury, Maryland 20658 from 9:00am until time of the Home Going Celebration Service, 11:00am. Her Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland.
