Marianne M. Canter, 81, of Hughesville, MD died January 18, 2010 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Born June 26, 1928, in Washington D.C. she was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary E. Montgomery Moran. She was predeceased by a son, James E. "Butch" Canter Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James E. "Jimmie" Canter, Sr., her children Mary Beth Gawthrop (Ed) of White Plains, Cathy Mattingly (Jenks) of Hollywood, Philip "Buster" Canter (Barbara) of Hughesville, Teresa "Teri Lou" Burch (Joe) of Charlotte Hall, Tina Norris (Mark) of Clements; 13 Grandchildren, Chrissy Beuchert, Connie Wood, Harry Canter, Kenny Canter, CJ Mattingly, Kimberly Guy, Nick Bologna, Danny Bologna, Joshua Norris, Veronica Norris, Jordon Burch, Trevor Burch, Jacob Canter; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Keith Wood II, Isabella Canter, Zachary Guy, Dominick Canter, Abby Mattingly and Brooklyn Canter.

She was retired from the Charles County Board of Education. She was a member of Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary. Jimmie and Marianne were the owners of Hotel Charles in Hughesville from 1977 - 1991. She was a life long member of St. Mary's Church, Bryantown, MD.

Family will receive friends to Celebrate Marianne's Life on Friday, January 22, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with prayers recited at 7 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Canter, C.J. Mattingly, Joshua Norris, Nick Bologna, Brad Guy and Keith Wood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Mary's Bryantown School, 13735 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617.
