James Miles Callis, 55, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on February 14, 2016 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 22, 1960 in Crossville, TN to the late Dr. James Taylor Callis and Ann C. Hamrick. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Callis.

On November 21, 1978, James proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served his county until his honorable discharge in November 1985. During his service he earned a meritorious unit commendation, sea service ribbon with one star, and another with a bronze star.

On October 9, 1986, he married Maira A. Colon in Kingsville, TX. Together they celebrated over 29 years of marriage.

He was currently employed by Lockheed Martin as a dedicated Field and Service Mechanic, with over five years of service. Prior to that, he was employed 25 years by Dynacorp.

He was very creative and a talented artist. His hobbies included working on cars, archery, golfing and soaking up the sun. James was an avid reader, especially Stephen King novels. As the grill master, he enjoyed sharing meals and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Vols.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his daughters, Jessica Hernandez, Virginia Callis, and Novalee Callis all of Lexington Park, MD; sisters, Cathy Callis Bilbrey of Knoxville, TN and Sandra Rae Sturgeon (Jeff) of Knoxville, TN; aunts, Nancy Burnett of Mobile, AL and Betty Ivy of Crossville, TN; step-mother, Barbara Callis of Crossville, TN; step-sister, Karis Adams of Crossville, TN; niece, Jordan Adams of Crossville, TN; nephew, Miles Austin Callis of Knoxville, TN and many extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends for James' Life Celebration on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., with a Service of Remembrance celebrated by Rev. Joe Orlando at 7:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Inurnment will be celebrated at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
