Barbara Bowie Reckner, 81, of Bryantown, Maryland passed away on October 18, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia. Born April 18, 1934 in Welcome, MD she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Mildred Bowie.

Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband the late Arthur M. Reckner and mother to her two children.

In her early life she pitched for her junior high school softball team and was class salutatorian of La Plata High School Class of 1952. Upon graduation, she was employed by the FBI. She worked for the FBI and the Department of Defense until her retirement in 2004 with more than 30 years of service.

After raising her family while actively working, Barbara earned an AA Degree from Prince George's Community College. She was an avid reader with a wide variety of interests. One of her greatest joys was feeding and watching birds and wildlife that frequented her backyard, along with tending her flower gardens.

Predeceased by her parents, husband and siblings Henry Bowie, Jr., and Jean Bowie, she is survived by her sons Marc and wife Mary (Pat) and Eric Reckner; sister Lois Moore; grandchildren Marc D. Reckner, Jr., Sarah Langley and husband Joshua and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a service at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
