Cheryl Lyn "Mama K." Abell-Kennedy, 48, Hobbsville, NC died Saturday, June 13, 2015. Cheryl was born in St. Mary's County, MD on January 9, 1967 and was the daughter of Robert W. Abell of Mechanicsville, MD and the late Lois Owens Abell.

A homemaker, she attended St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenton. Active in her community, she had volunteered in various capacities throughout the years and with Gates County Schools and most recently with T.S. Cooper Elementary School.

In addition to her father, surviving are her husband of 23 years, Steven Kennedy; a daughter, Shelby Mae Kennedy of Hobbsville; a sister, Karen Abell of California, MD; and by a niece, Summer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cheryl "Mama K." Kennedy Scholarship Fund, in care of Southern Bank, PO Box 86, Gatesville, NC 27938. The fund will provide scholarships for Gates County High School seniors.
