Boyd "Bud" A. Shaffer, of Waldorf, MD passed from this life to go home to be with the Lord on November 15, 2014 at the University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. We thank all of you who have provided prayers throughout his final days. He was 77 years old.

Bud was born on August 17, 1937 in Rowlesburg, WV to the late Harry Walter Shaffer and Ersie Nestor Shaffer. He was the only boy to arrive after seven sisters.

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean Young Shaffer. They were married 55 years ago and have two wonderful daughters, Lauryn Kelly and her husband Walter "Wally" Hickey of Waldorf, MD and Kimberly Sue and her husband James Fleeson of Mt. Gilead, OH. His grandchildren are Joshua Burke, Jason Burke, Wally Hickey IV, Lauryn Hickey, and Keith Hickey, all of whom adored him. He has one living sister, Lila Lee Machem of northern MD.

Bud grew up and lived in WV until he graduated from high school and joined the military, serving in the United States Army from 1958-1964. He met Norma (living in Bridgeville, PA) while stationed near Pittsburgh. They married shortly thereafter. They lived in PA for the first four years of their marriage until they moved to the Washington, DC metro area to reside in MD.

Bud was an outdoorsman and raised his girls camping, boating, and shooting archery. He was a member of Eutaw Forest Archers for over 40 years and also a member of the Southern MD Hunt Club. He spent his career working for Schlitz beer, Pepsi Cola, and various general contractors doing construction.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 and where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 beginning at 11:30AM. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
