We the faithful of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Aloysius, in communion with the Holy Father, commit ourselves to know, love and serve God and worship Him devoutly together. This challenges us to know God through His Holy Scripture and personal prayer; to love God in His Eucharistic Presence and to love one another; to serve Him by educating our children, by ministering to the sick and the elderly, by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and by hospitably reaching out to others. We commit to this with the grace of God and through the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God and Patroness of St. Mary's County. Andrew the fisherman was the first apostle called by Jesus. Andrew went and found his brother Simon (whom Jesus called Peter), telling him, "We have found the Messiah!" We hope to emulate Andrew, inviting our friends and relatives to come with us as we become fully-committed followers of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.[ Last Updated: 14-Oct-2005 | Reader Comments Report Problem

The church was founded in 1641 by the Reverend Andrew White. The Reverend was among a group of Catholic settlers who arrived in Maryland on the Ark and Dove in 1634. St. Ignatius is currently the oldest active parish with a continual pastorate. From it's 120-foot bluff on Chapel Point, the church commands a majestic view of the Port Tobacco River where it joins the Potomac. A Civil War era tunnel runs under the cemetery to the river. It is possible that this was used by runaway slaves in the Underground Railroad.[ Last Updated: 01-Sep-2003 | Reader Comments Report Problem

We, the parishioners of Saint John Vianney Parish, being One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic, seek to spread the Spirit of God in the example of Jesus Christ. We will love and serve God in our thoughts, words, and actions by giving of ourselves and loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we will share in the Church's mission to teach, govern, and sanctify, thereby building God's Kingdom within our parish family. As a community of charity, prayer and hospitality, we seek to make all feel welcome in our faith community.
