Southern Maryland is a fisherman's paradise. Fish the waterways of the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River, and the Patuxent River for: Blue Fish, Striped Rock Bass, Sea Trout, Flounder, White Perch, Hard Head (Croaker), Norfolk Spot, Spanish Mackerel, Black Sea Bass, and Channel Bass. Fishing starts in late April and continues through December.
 
The 2nd Annual $1,000,000 Fishing Challenge - Diamond Jim Returns! This year's Maryland $1,000,000 Fishing Challenge (June 3-September 4) marks the return of that Chesapeake Bay favorite, Diamond Jim, the lucky striped bass from the legendary tournaments of the 1950s. The contest has been expanded to include the state's nontidal lakes and streams as well! Grand prizes include $1,000,000 cash, motorboats and trailers, and two 2006 Toyota Tacoma trucks! The Southern Maryland Chapter of MSSA meets at 7:30 every third thursday of the month at the Solomon's Firehouse. At most meetings there are Guest speakers. Guest speakers range from Scientists, charter captains, Natural Resources Police and electronics Representatives. At every meeting there are door prize drawings and 50/50 raffles. In addition to monthly meetings there are fishing trips, picnics, contests, tournaments, and community events. If you don't have a boat, Dont worry! There are many boat owning members that just need people to fish with! Meetings are a great place for new fishermen to learn the local tricks.
