MetCom was created by the governor in 1964 as a non-profit, quasi-governmental body to supply water and sewer service to the citizens of St. Mary's County. Please note that most areas in the county are still served by private wells and septic systems.
While the Board of the St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission is appointed by the Commissioners of St. Mary's County, the MetCom Board is not a part of the county government.
