Ethics Panel Appointments Announced

Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. Scott Smith, announces the Ethics Panel appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting on May 24, 2017, as follows:

Mr. Peter Neus of California, Maryland—Mr. Neus has served as a major account executive with Pitney Bowes. He attended St. Mary's College of Maryland. He is an active volunteer with the Historic Sotterley, Inc.

Dr. F. J. Talley of Lexington Park, Maryland—Dr. Talley is currently serving as the Director, DeSousa-Brent Scholars Program with St. Mary's College. He has previously served as a member of the Ethics Committee for the American College Personnel Association.

Administrative Appointment Announced

Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointment made by the Board of Education at its meeting of May 10, 2017.

The Board appointed Ms. Kathyrn Miluski as Principal of Oakville Elementary School. Ms. Miluski holds a Master's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University. She has most recently served as Supervisor of Instruction for Reading/Language Arts, Grades K-5 in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

This appointment will become effective July 1, 2017.

Lunch and Learn and Lunch at the Library

St. Mary's County Public Schools' (SMCPS) Judy Center and Food and Nutrition Services is pleased to announce its free summer meals program in partnership with the St. Mary's County Library and a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. Students and their families will be able to access a free and nutritious meal for 12 weeks Monday-Friday during the summer. Student meals are free of charge and adults may eat for a minimal fee. Adults may eat for $3.75 and financial support is available for adults who need assistance. Details about the Judy Center's Lunch and Learn program and Lunch at the Library are included below.

Beginning on Monday, June 12, 2017, students and their families may visit the Lexington Park Library from 12:00 p.m.-12:30 p.m. to receive a nutritious box lunch. The library will be serving meals during the weeks of June 12-16, and June 19-23 from Monday to Friday.

On Monday, June 26 through Thursday, August 17 excluding Fridays, the SMCPS' Judy Center Lunch and Learn will operate at Lexington Park Elementary School from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and at George Washington Carver from 12:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Children and a parent or guardian may visit either site for a nutritious hot meal and a fun learning activity provided by a Judy Center partner. On Fridays, schools will be closed but families may receive a meal at the Lexington Park Library from 12:00 p.m.-12:30 p.m.

During the final weeks of the summer, August 21-25 and August 28-September 1, families may visit the Lexington Park Library for Lunch at the Library from 12:00 p.m.-12:30 p.m.

Administrative Appointments Announced

Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of April 26, 2017.

The Board appointed Ms. Cheryl Long as Director of Student Services in the Department of Student Services. Ms. Long holds a Master's degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a Bachelor's degree from the University of St. Joseph. She has most recently served as the principal of White Marsh Elementary School.

Ms. Tammy Burr has been appointed as Coordinator of Special Programs in the Office of Strategic Planning and Communications. Ms. Burr holds a Master's degree from Towson University and a Bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University. She has most recently served as an Assistant Principal III at Chopticon High School.

These appointments will become effective July 1, 2017.
