PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Oct. 31, 2016)—Police in Calvert Co. report a serious, 3 vehicle accident occurred Friday evening
at Rt. 4 and Chaneyville Road in Owings. Police suspect the at-fault driver was under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.
Police were called to the scene of the accident on Oct. 28 at approximately
8:28 p.m. The first deputies on the scene found a three car collision. A
passenger vehicle travelling southbound on Rt. 4 struck the rear of a pickup
truck and then veered off the roadway, subsequently striking an unoccupied passenger car in the parking lot of
World Gym.
The single occupant of the striking vehicle was trapped in his vehicle, requiring the Dunkirk Fire Department to assist with removal. The man had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person, and appeared to be "out of it,"
according to police
The single occupant of the pickup truck was evaluated by EMS personnel, signed a refusal form, and was released from the scene upon his request. His vehicle was not towed.
The occupant of the striking vehicle received medical care from the crew of Ambulance-59 and Medic-101. Paramedics determined that his medical state required immediate transport to a trauma facility. Trooper 6 responded to the scene for aviation transport.
The striking vehicle was towed by Chips towing to their lot. At this point in the investigation, it did not appear that the patient was suffering from life threatening injuries.
After the patient was reassessed, assistance was requested from the Crash
Reconstruction Team. Det. Rector and Cpl. Wilson responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Trooper 6 transported the adult male to Baltimore Shock Trauma. Contact was made with the Trauma Resuscitation Unit and advised that they anticipate a full recovery.
Police say DFC Durner will be completing an accident report. Det. Rector will assist with obtaining a subpoena for medical records to assist DFC Durner with charging this male with DUI/DWI and possession of narcotics.
