Deputy Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in Great Mills

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 30, 2016)—The sheriff's office this afternoon advised that one of their deputies struck and killed a pedestrian in the Great Mills area early this morning.

At approximately 2:12 a.m., the deputy was traveling southbound on Chancellors Run Road in the area of Pegg Road when a pedestrian entered the roadway. The pedestrian was struck by the deputy's vehicle and succumbed to injuries sustained.

The Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and continued the investigation.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.

Due to the nature of the preliminary investigation, the names of the officer and pedestrian are being withheld.

Police did not indicate whether or not the deputy was on duty at the time of the accident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cpl. Brian Connelly at (240) 309-7982.
