La Plata Man Killed After Running Red Light Near White Plains


WHITE PLAINS, Md. (Sept. 20, 2016)—State police report that a La Plata man ran a red light last night resulting in a 3 vehicle crash and his death. The crash happened at approximately 8:37 p.m. on United States Route 301 in the area of Maryland Route 227 in White Plains.

A preliminary investigation conducted by police indicates a GMC Sonoma operated by Brian Joseph Morgal, 40, of La Plata, was traveling on southbound US Route 301 in the area of Maryland Route 227. Morgal failed to stop for a steady red traffic signal and entered the intersection of United States Route 301 and Maryland Route 227. The GMC collided with a Ford F-350 operated by Gerald Louis Dodson, 71 , of Bryans Road.

During the collision, debris struck a Mitsubishi Endeavor operated by Marc Wagner, 33, of Pomfret, which was stopped on Maryland Route 227 at US Route 301 for the traffic signal.

Mr. Dodson was transported to Prince George's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Wagner refused treatment on the scene.

Mr. Morgal was pronounced deceased on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The investigation was conducted by troopers from the La Plata Barrack, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police Crash Team and the Maryland State Police Southern Region Crash Unit.
