UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (Sept. 20, 2016)—The Prince George's Police Dept. Homicide Unit has charged a suspect in connection with the homicide of a baby boy. The suspect is 48-year-old Lenwood Pearson of the 300 block of Zelma Avenue in Capitol Heights. The victim is six-month-old Demetri Hooper of Allendale Circle in Landover. The suspect is the victim's step-grandfather.
On September 13th, at about 7:15 pm, patrol officers were called to the 300 block of Zelma Avenue for the report of an injured baby. The infant was rushed to a hospital where he died on September 16th. An autopsy later revealed the cause of death was trauma to the baby's head. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The preliminary investigation reveals the injuries to the baby occurred while in the sole care and custody of Pearson.
Pearson is charged with manslaughter, first degree child abuse resulting in death, along with first and second degree assault. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
