Fatal Crash in Calvert Claims One Life


CITY, Md. (Aug. 22, 2016)—A head-on vehicle crash in Calvert Co. Saturday claimed the life of a Port Republic man. This is the third fatal head-on collision in Calvert in recent weeks.

At 3:55 p.m., troopers from the Prince Frederick Barrack responded to Route 506 (Sixes Road) south of Route 231 for a reported serious motor vehicle collision. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Ford F-350, driven by Joseph Coulby, 19, of Prince Frederick, was traveling on Sixes Road, south of Route 231, when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line while in a curve striking a 2013 Chrysler 300M in the front end. The Chrysler was driven by Dexter Holland, 41, of Port Republic.

As a result of the collision, Mr. Holland was trapped in his vehicle and later succumbed to his injuries at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Coulby and his passenger were uninjured.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to the scene to reconstruct the accident.
