State Charges 11 and 12 Year-old Boys for Fire Damage at Carver Park


ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. (July 26, 2016)—Deputy State Fire Marshals investigated multiple burned picnic tables at the Carver Park playground located at 47382 Lincoln Avenue in Lexington Park. Damage estimates to the tables is valued at $1,000. The property is owned by the St. Mary's County Recreation and Parks.

Investigators found six rubber coated picnic tables exhibiting high heat damage in small sections of each table. The subsequent investigation revealed the damage occurred during the previous week when two juveniles, observed by other children, were using an ignitable liquid and a lighter on the mesh table tops causing the rubber coating to melt.

The two male juveniles, ages 11 and 12, have been charged with 1st Degree Malicious Burning and released to the custody of their parents pending actions by the Department of Juvenile Services.
