Newburg Man Charged for Burning Family Owned Trailer

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (July 14, 2016)—Deputy State Fire Marshals charged Shawn Michael Miles, age 25, with arson related charges after he confessed to intentionally setting fire to an unused 10' x 20' camper style trailer on his grandmothers property located at 15355 Rock Point Road in Newburg.

The incident occurred after 7:00 p.m. on July 13th when the suspect became upset after consuming alcoholic beverages with family members. The suspect's father, Paul Miles, used a garden hose to contain the fire until the arrival of approximately four firefighters from the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department who quickly extinguished the remainder of the small blaze. Damage to the structure and contents was valued at nearly $500.

Shawn Miles was transported to the Charles County Detention Center on charges of Arson 2nd Degree and Malicious Burning 2nd Degree.
