Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Collision with Marked Police Car

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 25, 2016)—A marked sheriff's office vehicle and a 2013 Ford Focus collided at the intersection of Chancellor's Run Road and Pegg Road in Great Mills, St. Mary's County, early Monday at 1:54 a.m. Sgt. Harold Young and the other driver, Jarrett L. Davis, age 28, of Lexington Park, were both transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both have since been released.

Deputies on the scene say Davis had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person and appeared to be intoxicated.

Investigators say Sgt. Young was traveling northbound on Chancellors Run Rd. in a non-emergency status approaching Pegg Road. A 2013 Ford Focus, operated by Davis, was traveling southbound on Chancellors Run Road and was attempting to turn left onto Pegg Road failing to yield the right of way.

A blood test for alcohol was administered on Davis at the hospital; charges are pending based upon the results, say police.

Sgt. Sarah Russell of the sheriff's office is handling the accident.
